Historically, E3 served as an industry platform to make announcements about games products and services, as well as an opportunity for business to get done.
Over the years, even as consumers were invited to participate in E3, the event focused largely on the industry's marketing and business needs. However, those marketing needs have evolved and they started evolving even before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Q: If E3 was to continue, how would you do it? Does it need a complete reset?
SPL: What we want to make sure we are doing is providing a platform that works for the needs of the industry. That means continuing to ask the questions we were asking in the last round but also monitoring how they want to deploy their assets in an evolving world. But we also need to be mindful that we are in the midst of a very different period for industry in terms of game development and economic headwinds, so we want to make sure we are providing a platform in a way that is sustainable for today and in the future.https://www.gamesindustry.biz/e3-202...a-tells-us-whyQ: Is the plan for E3 to return in 2024?
SPL: We're committed to providing an industry platform for marketing and convening but we want to make sure we find that right balance that meets the needs of the industry. We're certainly going to be listening and ensuring whatever we want to offer meets those needs and at that time, we will have more news to share.
https://www.theverge.com/2023/3/30/2...nt-coming-backSince then, nearly every major gaming company has adopted the format to create newsworthy moments of their own, and they’re pre-recorded ones that can’t break down on stage or might embarrass in front of a live audience.
The videos can be published whenever suits the company instead of cramming them all into June, letting them create their own news cycles about upcoming games without having to share a spotlight with anyone else. Then, they can send journalists software over the internet, no need to wait for a locked-down demo console.
https://kotaku.com/e3-2023-canceled-...rip-1850285780They don’t need to pay for big E3 press conferences anymore, they can just film their own presentations and show them on a day when there’s no competing news.
https://twitter.com/geoffkeighley/st...40390179205121Here's 15-year old me at the first-ever E3 in 1995.
E3 meant so much to me and to so many of you too.
Four years ago, I realized that E3 wasn't evolving as it needed to compete in a global, digital world. So we started building what’s next. See at

June 8.

"Ouane maure sing".
C'est triste plus d'E3.
