Aliens and marines:
- Orange bar: Rear armor
- Yellow bar: Front armor
- Blue bar: Morale gauge
- Green to yellow bar: Health gauge
Aliens:
- Red skull (Alpha enemy): Bigger, more HP, more armor, greater damage
- Green target (Hunter Beta enemy): Hunts weaker units
- Green heart (Rejuvenating Beta enemy): Restores 200 HP in the beginning of each turn
- Green shield (Armored Beta enemy): Greater armor
- Checkered orange shield: Partial cover (harder to hit)
- Orange shield: Full cover (harder to hit)
- Purple flame: Shadow energy aura and shadow fire trails (Shadow Envoy and Greater Shadow Envoy)
Marines:
- Red human bent over: Crouched stance (half-height when crouched)
- Green shield: Full cover (for projectiles) on the side it appears (four possibilities: 1 top right or left, 1 down right or left)
- Checkered green shield: Partial cover
- Blue shield: Melee Defense Mode
- Blue target: Ranged Overwatch

- Purple whirlwind: Paralysis/Tranquilization level (5 levels: None, 1, 2, 3, P)
- Orange virus: Poison buildup
- Bloodshed: Bleeding buildup
- Snowflake: Cryo damage buildup/frozen
- Orange flame: Burn buildup

- Grey bar: Integrity (wall health)
- Yellow bar: Armor
- Blue lock: Locked door
- Barometer: Room pressure (when spaceship hull is damaged)
