La FAQ :
GENERAL
What is Servo?
Servo is a far-future real-time strategy game that lets players customize their team of giant war machines, called Servos, with parts they earn in battle. Across the single-player story campaign, hand-crafted co-op scenarios, and white-knuckle PvP, Servo has something for everyone.
What platforms is Servo on?
Right now, we are on Windows PC and Mac OSX with full interoperability between those platforms. We're actively exploring Linux/SteamOS releases and hope to have something to announce there soon.
What's up with pre-orders?
You can join the Founders program now, securing your place in the friends-and-family alpha that will be available soon.
Are you doing Early Access?
We'll be entering Early Access in the coming months. Before that, we'll have a friends-and-family alpha that our Founders will be invited to join.
GAMEPLAY
What makes Servo different from any other sci-fi RTS games?
Servo's core mechanic is earning parts in battle and then customizing your Servos with those parts. Collecting awesome new parts from Nemodium Blades to Hydra Launchers and experimenting with the new strategies they enable is key to Servo. The marriage between that progression and a well-crafted RTS game sets Servo apart.
It's not a MOBA, right?
Definitely not! Servo has base-building, economy, troop recruitment, and all the other stuff you'd expect from a traditional RTS. We just also happen to have sweet customizable hero units that you design yourself with the loot you earn from battle.
How will Servo stay balanced if people are equipping all these different parts?
There are two answers to that... First, and most importantly, we are building the matchmaking to take the strength and skill of the players into account so you have evenly-matched opponents to play. Second, we believe in giving players options in all phases of gameplay. As you collect new parts for your Servos, you'll get more options about what they can do. That doesn't necessarily equate to being more powerful, though. Skill will be the dominant factor in determining the winner of a PvP match or how many waves a co-op team can clear. No matter what you're up against, there's always a response available if you're good enough to pull it off.
What's the Bloom?
Bloom is the most potent and profitable energy source in the known universe. It's also very dangerous. It takes a special brand of crazy to race around the galaxy collecting it. Guess where you come in?
What's the campaign like?
As you play through the campaign, you'll journey back to Old Earth and uncover the mysteries of the Bloom. The campaign itself will be 25+ missions. Missions will be replayable for additional rewards.
How does the economy work?
You earn Bloom for killing Bloomspawn and building Refineries on wells that your Servos have captured. You can then spend that Bloom on global economic and military upgrades. Expand with more refineries. Defend that territory with turrets, beacons, or drone factories. Or, funnel your resources into a full-on rush. It's up to you.
How does customizing Servos work?
Each Servo has a number of slots to fill with the parts you've earned. The chassis determines the Servo's base stats and body type, weapons are for blowing up the bad guys (or dicing them, or filling them full of lots and lots of very small holes, or...), heads and legs give various bonuses, and shoulder pods and CPU augments add further special abilities. Each Servo also needs a pilot. They each bring a unique super power to the party.
Do I still get parts if I lose?
Yes! Not as many as if you'd won, naturally, but we want players to be rewarded for playing the game. It should feel good, not stressful, to jump back into matchmaking after a loss.
What happens when a Servo is destroyed?
The killer gets a big pile of Bloom for his accomplishment. The Servo is rebuilt in orbit and available for re-deployment after some time.
Any unique online features?
We'll be detailing more over time, but you can expect the usual trappings like leaderboards and clans. We have a few surprises in store, too.
TECHNICAL
What are Servo's system requirements?
We'll have a formal list soon, but Servo won't require a crazy high-spec machine to run. It will, however, take advantage of a crazy high-spec machine if you have one.
Do I need an Internet connection to play Servo?
Not for single-player, no. PvP and co-op over the Internet will require an active connection.
Do I need a Steam account to play Servo?
Yes, Servo uses Steamworks. Wherever you buy Servo from, you'll receive a Steam key that you'll need to associate with a Steam account in order to download and play the game.
Will Servo have hosted servers? Matchmaking? Leagues? Ladders?
Yes. We're taking great advantage of Stardock's Project Tachyon metagame infrastructure. Stay tuned for further details.
