    ---------- Post added at 19h15 ---------- Previous post was at 19h10 ----------

    D'abord quelques images :

    Et puis autre chose :

Comrades, you are the sincerest followers of our game and we want to hear your opinion.
As you know the game is developed in Russian and it deals with the USSR-related stuff, so all the press in the game, billboards etc etc is originally in Russian/Cyrillic. We have several opinions within the team about localizing stuff like that:
    1) The headers and articles in the newspapers, billboards and s
igns remain in Russian to keep the level of authenticity higher and we simply give you subtitles of what’s in there (like a gist)
    2) We localize / translate everything, including the names of the newspapers or text books.
Your opinion is very valuable for us. So please let us know what you think about it. Have a nice and bright day!

    Pleins d'autres screenshots ici : http://nuclearunion.com/screens/0

Q: Will we see any anomalies and monsters in the game?
A: Anomalous fields emerged on top of the Earth following the nuclear strikes, and animals and people who failed to hide out in the bunkers due to various reasons, mutated. Hence Nuclear Union will definitely feature anomalies and mutants!

Q:The game plot can be considered a fantasy, because it unfolds in the alternative historical reality. Did it affect the game weaponry in any way?
A: Of course! Everything happened in a different way in the game, in the year of 1962. The industries were hastily moved to the underground bunkers along with key specialists of the Soviet Military Industry. As for the weaponry in 2012 there will be a large selection of “unusual” small arms, inclusive of experimental Soviet prototypes, which existed in the real history, but never went to the mass production.

Q: Where exactly does Nuclear Union take place - under- or above the ground?
A: Most of the time gamers will play above the ground, in the Moscow region that survived the nuclear apocalypse. Moreover, the protagonist will also visit Pobedograd. As aforementioned we cannot share any more information with you.

Q: Will it be possible to free-roam the game world? How big is it?
A: The explorable world is constantly growing. The protagonist can move freely around any already-visited locations. The more the plot unfolds the more locations he will be able to visit. If we talk about the freedom in the game, it’s pretty large. There is a global goal, but it’s totally up to the player what steps they will take to achieve it. The freedom of the player’s actions will only be limited by their imagination.

Q: Role-playing games usually feature companions to the main protagonist, the so-called party. Will they be featured in Nuclear Union?
A: The protagonist will meet very interesting and colorful characters in Nuclear Union, and some of them will join him. It is possible to travel with only two party members at a time, but it is the player who decides who they will accompany them and when to abandon them.

Q: The game plot can be considered science fiction because it unfolds in the alternative historical reality. Did it affect the game weaponry in any way?
A: Of course! Everything happened in a different way in the game’s version of 1962. The industries were hastily moved to the underground bunkers along with key specialists from the Soviet Military Industry. Due to this, the weaponry in 2012 will be a large selection of “unusual” small arms, inclusive of experimental Soviet prototypes, which existed in the real history but never went to the mass production.

Q: Do you plan to have a moral choice system throughout the game?
A: Some game quests might trigger some a moral choice that might affect the various plot lines. But the protagonist, an active Soviet officer, will definitely never join forces of evil.

Q: Will it be possible to overlook the battlefield and give tactical commands between the party members, like in the Men of War games?
A: Nuclear Union features a third-person view camera. The player is unable to control the party members, but it is possible to do something about their behavior and to assign commands to them during the combat.

Q: Will the combat in Nuclear Union will be real-time or turn-based?
A: All battles are real-time, but it will be possible to use active pause. For example, for more precise shooting or assigning commands to the party members.

Q: Can you please share some details about the combat system?
A: We will give you more information on this later.

Q: Some words about the role-playing upgrades and playing the role of the character?
A: Unfortunately we cannot comment on this now. Let’s come back to his topic later.

    Q: What about Steam support?
A: Yes, we plan to distribute the game as usual both through retail boxed versions and digitally through Steam.

Q: What are the main features of your game?
A: Nuclear Union is a 3rd person action/RPG in a post-apocalyptic setting. We have reconstructed what could have happened in the world if the Cuban Missile Crisis had erupted into a nuclear war. One of the main features and differences of Nuclear Union is that it shows how a state could have preserved and evolved after a nuclear catastrophe. In the majority of movies and games dedicated to this topic the post-apocalyptic world is shown as a wasteland inhabited by gangs that fight each other. We tried to introduce another point of view. In Nuclear Union the state itself, the USSR, has survived the nuclear war and has adjusted to the new conditions. The player will not only see it in the surrounding but will also feel the leadership of the state and the party while playing the game.

Q: Will the game feature any heavy ordnance (tanks, choppers etc.) the protagonist will drive?
A: Yes, we do plan to have some vehicles in the game. Although these are likely to be non-drivable.

Q: A few words about the game world – will it look more like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Metro with its gas masks when you climb up onto the surface?
A: The world of Nuclear Union was made to be much more realistic than either of those. Farmers breed cattle and grow vegetables. Workers work in labor-shops. Monsters and animals roam around searching for food, and run away from tougher enemies and hide. Humans and the new world get along together pretty well, even with the radiation. Our key goal is to have the player submerge into this extraordinary world, and let them play an exciting adventure. It’s been a long time since the nuclear war, and people got used to world around them. Most of them carry gas masks only if required.

Q: How versatile is the game weaponry?
A: We are developing a deep system of barrel and gun customizations especially for our fans, which will provide for upgrades of weapons to suit ones’ requirements.

Q: Will the game feature cover system? If yes, will AI use it?
A: The AI will use environmental cover in order to defeat the player. Players will also be able to take cover for protection from attacking fire.

Q: How often will the player face other humans?
A: You will be fighting against humanoids for most of the game. The fights will be tough and require additional training. Human enemies will be early in the game, but further in the game there be more and more mutants.

Q: How are mutants represented in the game? Will they ‘live’ in locations and behave according to their own set of rules?
A: There will be a life simulation system for these creatures. You’ll be able to watch mutant behavior in their natural habitat to determine if they are a threat or not.

Q: Will the game feature trade and money? Can I sell everything I find?
A: Yes, there will be money and trading. You can sell almost anything if a trader has money and is willing to buy it from you.

Q: Will be the SDK released to general public?
A: Speaking from our previous experience with the Men of War engine GEM2, the SDK needs to be released because this extends the life cycle of the game. Our editor is known for its easy learning curve and simplicity of modifying resources. In GEM3, our new engine, we improved the editor further. Now it is more visual than textual editing, we also added a lot of features that make creation of materials, maps and missions clearer.

    http://www.rpgwatch.com/show/article?articleid=221

During Gamescom Russian publisher 1C showed a first playable build of Nuclear Union in its current state, which they said was pre-alpha. It only covered a small part of the game at the beginning of the story. This article describes the elements that were shown in this demo.

The overall story has not changed with respect to our previous preview. Nuclear Union takes place in an alternative reality where the Cuban missile crisis of 1962 ended in a nuclear war in which our hero was a member of a bomber plane ordered to bomb the United States. On their way back, the plane crashed on Soviet territory knocking our hero unconscious. Once he wakes up he finds himself somehow 50 years in the future and wants to find out what happened. For this he needs to reach the capital to report in and learn what has happened to him.

In most games a post-apocalyptic world is in compete anarchy. In Nuclear Union however the Russian state never collapsed completely. There are gangs and savages roaming the wild, but there still is a Russian government in place that secures certain areas of the former Soviet Union. The plot for the game has been written by a famous Russian Science Fiction author named Alexander Zorich (which is actually a pseudonym, behind which there are two Ukrainian writers).

The demo showed the hero in a local settlement where he talks to the head of the settlement to tell him that he needs to get to the capital to report in as he crashed his plane. The head of the settlement does not believe our hero, as no planes have flown for 50 years. Still, he does mention that in order to get to the capitol he needs a helicopter to fly across the contaminated area in order to get closer to the capital, but only the local bandits have an operational one so they are the ones to talk to.

Before we go there however we are off to buy some weapons in the shop. The demo only had a couple of hand guns in this stage. They promised to have a whole range of weapons available in the final game, especially more powerful ones, but for now we had to do with hand guns.

The game does not have an open world, but uses zones that allow you to move from one area to the next, which takes only a short time. On the world map all these areas that can be visited will be visible. The amount of visited and to visit areas will grow as you progress in the games. You can always go back to any area you visited before, so none of them will be locked. In some cases it is even a requirement to visit areas again to solve quests.

Nuclear Union allows you to have companions that follow and assist you. You cannot control these companions and they will use their own AI to assist you in combat. In the demo there was only one companion, but they did mention that the maximum amount of companions will probably be something like two, depending on further balancing. The companions can be selected from a larger group of potential companions you will encounter during your travels.

The game has a pause option that can be used during combat. Once triggered it is possible to aim more precisely to an area of the body of the opponent and do more damage. However to use this pause mode special action points are needed. These action points will slowly regenerate over time, making sure you cannot use this option too often and make the game too easy.

The combat in the game for the most part looked rather straightforward and is for the main part about aiming and shooting and making sure you are not hit too often. The tactical element in the game that was shown was related to the pause option and knowing what the weak spots are of the monster or opponent you are fighting against. As the demo always had a full amount of action points, it was possible to use the pause option very often, so most fights were not that challenging. I do think that the fights will be much more difficult with the pause option working as intended, but that was not made clear in this demo.

There will be a skill tree for each of the different weapon types, allowing you to become more proficient in using the ones you like best. You gain skill points for a particular weapon by firing it. The more you use it the more points you end up with. At the moment there are only skill trees for weapons and health, but work is commencing on the RPG system adding more skills to that system, implementing skill trees for things like; dexterity, strength, luck etc.

One of the important elements in the game are the anomalies that are present throughout the game world. These anomalies can be game changers that can either help or hinder you. In this build only one of these anomalies was shown where your temperature would rise when getting closer to the anomaly and if you would not stop and go back you would burn. The demo did not really make clear how these anomalies influcene the world and the actions you can take, but there is a bit more info on that in our previous preview.

The road to the helicopter will result in you having to solve different quests for the gang leader. In the dialogue it is often possible to select a different path that will allow solving a quest in a different way from fighting. These alternative paths will only succeed if the required skill levels you need are high enough. Then again being successful in combat requires sufficient high levels of your weapon skills as well.

It will still take quite some time until the game is finished (Q2-2014) and many parts that are planned are not in the current version of the game, the most visible of these are voice overs and lip-synchronization, but the current version looks already quite nice visually and played without any problems. So here is hoping that the game will implement all the missing parts in the right way resulting in a great game.

And as a last comment I can also say that Space Rangers HD, which has been available in Russia for some time, is now in beta with the translation being finalized.
