Hello,

is it permitted to plug/unplug USB devices while testing with memtest86+?
I get an reproduceable error no matter which USB port or USB-device I try.

Stumbled over that error accidentally on an FSC ESPRIMO 2530 system where I plugged in the USB kbd after starting the tests.

TIA

Best regards, Mac

Removing an USB device can change the e820 table on the fly and Memtest86+ only poll it one time, at startup. So, if you plug or remove an USB device while Memtest86+ is running, the e820 table (memory areas to be tested) is not coherent with the actual memory map and it crashs everything. There is nothing to do but not to remove or plug an USB device while memtest is running.

Does your answer apply only to this specific e820 controller/chipset?

Best, Mac

No, this can apply to any chipset or motherboard.

I've experienced that immediate removing the usb stick i have started memtest from does not produce any error. Only if I wait some time and remove it than I am experiencing errors.
