Hello,

I'm new here and I apologize if what I'm asking seems obvious to you more knowledgable people, but I hope that someone can still be kind enough to offer opinions or suggestions with my problem.

In the last few months, my computer has started to freeze up or the monitor would go blank both requiring me to reboot or the system would reboot on its own; sometimes with the blue screen of death and a wpfb_nv4_disp message or a something message. I've gotten the latest diver for my Quadro FX 3450 card, I've tested the hard drive using chkdsk, tested the Ram, checked all connections to be sure they are seated correctly, cleaned out all the dust, but it still happens. While searching the net for possible solutions, I discovered CPUID amazing utilities for finding problems. Perfect for even noobie PC do-it-yourselfers.

The HWMonitor (free version) has showed me what looks like a problem with my Power Supply, especially Sensor #6. I've attached a txt dump minus the acpi info since it was beyond allowed attachment size. I bought this larger 485W replacement power supply in June 2006. I'm running Win XP Home, have 4 GB DDR SDRAM and dual core AMD Athlon 64 3800+ processors. From PC Wizard 2008, I've also discovered that everything seems to be running hotter then it should be. I just ordered a rear cooling fan. Before ordering a new Power Supply, I hope someone would please give me their opinion if they think it sounds like the power supply or if maybe it's something else. Thanks for your time and assistance.

Just a simple question to begin with: What is the brand of your psu?

Just a simple question to begin with: What is the brand of your psu?

The psu that I currently have is an Enermax. I bought it from newegg in 2006 to replace the smaller Gateway psu that came with the computer so that I could add the nvidia quadro fx 3450 video card to use with 3d graphics software. I tried going to their website, but apparently it is no longer active.

Correction, the website listed on the manual for enermax has apparantly changed. I did a search and found the new url.

I suppose that your Windows and all your drivers are up-to-date... Your PSU seems to be in trouble since the HWMonitor reports a very weird -5V tension.
If possible, you should try to test another PSU which will have to be a rock solid-one such as a Seasonic S12 and see if you're still crashing your computer.

I had a similar problem with a power supply where the -5v was reporting around -8v. The problem only occurred when there was a heavy load put on the system (playing World of Warcraft). Replacing the power supply resolved the issue for me.
